What is a QR Code and How Does it Work?

A Quick Response (QR) code is a two-dimensional matrix barcode invented in 1994 by Masahiro Hara of Denso Wave. Unlike standard 1D barcodes that only store data horizontally across parallel lines, QR codes store information both vertically and horizontally in a grid of dark modules on a light background, enabling them to hold hundreds of times more data.

QR codes incorporate Reed-Solomon error correction algorithms, allowing scanners and smartphone cameras to read and decode the data accurately even if the physical code is partially obscured, smudged, or damaged (up to 30% error tolerance).

Our online QR code generator constructs your code directly in the browser using HTML5 Canvas and SVG technologies. No user links, Wi-Fi passwords, or text strings are uploaded to external tracking databases.
