What is Base64 Encoding and Decoding?

Base64 is a group of binary-to-text encoding schemes that represent binary data in an ASCII string format by translating it into a radix-64 representation. Standardized under RFC 4648, Base64 is designed to carry data stored in binary formats across channels that only reliably support text content, such as email via MIME or HTTP POST bodies.

The Base64 alphabet consists of 64 characters: uppercase letters A-Z, lowercase letters a-z, digits 0-9, and two symbols (+ and /), with an optional padding character (=). Each Base64 character represents exactly 6 bits of data, meaning three 8-bit bytes of binary data are converted into four 6-bit Base64 characters (a 33% increase in size).

Our online Base64 converter supports full UTF-8 character encoding, ensuring that special unicode symbols, non-Latin alphabets, and emojis are accurately converted and decoded without garbled text or data loss.
